About this task

This finance advisory firm for retailers (51–200 employees) is looking for a senior Privacy & GDPR Counsel for a single piece of work with a fixed scope and a fixed price. Reviews and negotiates processing agreements.

The work is too small to justify a hire and too important to leave to chance. It is a consulting firm, so client deadlines set the pace and handover notes are expected.

The work is fully remote. Any location in United States works, with a few hours of overlap with the team's day. You choose your hours; nothing is scheduled except an occasional short call.

What you deliver

  • Review 15 vendor DPAs for sub-processors, transfers and security terms.
  • A 20-minute walkthrough call, or a recorded screen share if you prefer
  • One round of edits after the company's review is included
  • A final note stating what was checked and what was left out of scope

How the work runs

  • Day 1: scope confirmed in writing, files shared
  • Middle of the period: draft shared for early feedback
  • Last day: final version and handover note

Duration: about 10 working days. Accepted when the output matches the agreed checklist and the sample check passes; the recruiter confirms by e-mail.

Who fits

  • 5-10 years of hands-on work as a Privacy & GDPR Counsel, or the equivalent mix of roles
  • Comfortable working in Word and Ironclad
  • Admission to practise in United States is required, and the sign-off on legal advice stays with the company's own counsel.
  • Your own work history stays private; the company sees a first name, your field and a rate

Nice to have

  • Has worked with a distributed team across time zones
  • A habit of asking one clarifying question early rather than five late

Not included

  • Work outside the scope written in the brief; extra items are quoted separately
  • Managing other contractors or employees
  • A signature or opinion in your own name: sign-off stays with the company

How you get paid

  • The company prepays Deftridge before your first hour, so payment does not depend on a late invoice.
  • Deftridge pays you in USD after the company confirms the hours or the deliverable. The payment date is written in your task agreement.
  • You work as an independent contractor: you report your own income, and your recruiter sends the statements your accountant needs.
  • You never chase the company. Questions about money go to Deftridge.
