Glossary

The glossary

30 terms, defined once and used the same way everywhere on the site.

Anonymous profile
What a company sees before you agree to an introduction: your first name, field, level, rate and a short summary, without your surname, employer or contact details.
Bundle
A monthly package of recurring tasks, usually 10 to 20 hours, billed hourly up to a cap.
Client rate
The rate the company pays: your rate plus Deftridge's 15% fee.
Contractor
A person who works independently, not as an employee, and is responsible for their own tax and contributions.
Contractor premium
The uplift over the market wage that reflects leave, benefits and social contributions a contractor pays for themselves.
Expert hour
A single paid slot, typically an hour, with a senior specialist.
Floor
The lowest hourly rate Deftridge publishes in a country. No role is priced below the market median or the floor.
Fractional
A senior role filled part time, for example a fractional CFO working a few hours a week for one or several companies.
Format
How work is packaged: regular role, one-off task, bundle, expert hour or AI expert review.
Human-only
Work where AI tools may not be used to produce the answers, as in AI expert review.
Kappa
The measured ratio between pay posted in job ads and the aged wage statistic for the same role and region, used to calibrate market wages.
Level
Specialist, senior, manager, director or executive. Each level scales the rate.
Market median
The middle hourly wage for a role in a place, from official wage statistics aged to today.
Moonlighting
Doing paid work outside your main job. Whether it is allowed depends on your contract and local law.
Non-compete
A contract clause restricting work for competitors. Enforceability varies by country and state.
OEWS
Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics survey that is our main source for US wages.
One-off task
A single deliverable with a fixed scope and a fixed price.
Outplacement
Support for people leaving a company in a reduction. On Deftridge it is free for the company and the people affected.
Percentile
A point in the wage distribution. The 25th percentile means a quarter of people earn less.
Placement fee
A fee charged when a company hires a person full time. Deftridge charges none.
Platform cap
The maximum of 15 hours a week a professional works across all Deftridge tasks.
Prepayment
Companies pay before work starts, so the money is there when you work.
Rate report
A free e-mailed report with wage percentiles, the contractor rate for your level and open tasks.
Recruiter
The named person on our team who agrees your rate, finds tasks and stays on your thread.
Regular role
Ongoing part-time work, typically 3 to 10 hours a week.
Replacement guarantee
If a person on a standing role is not working out, we replace them at no extra cost.
Shortlist
Three to five anonymous profiles with rates that a company receives within 48 hours of a brief.
Standing role
A regular role that continues week after week until either side ends it.
Task
A defined piece of work with a brief, an hourly rate, a load and a start window.
Written OK
Your agreement, in writing, before a company sees your profile.
