The typical rate in West Midlands is £30 an hour against £30 nationally: in line with the national rate. Tasks that are remote pay the national rate for the company's location, so a remote task can pay more than a local one.
Working on the side in West Midlands
What to check before you take a task next to a full-time job. Orientation only; none of it is legal or tax advice.
Before you start
- Read the outside-work and conflict-of-interest clauses in your employment contract.
- Check for a non-compete or a duty to disclose side income to your employer.
- As a contractor you are usually responsible for your own income tax and social contributions; a local accountant can size the amounts.
Your recruiter walks through these points with you before you accept a task. Read the guides

The same rules apply to every task, so they live on two pages: Pricing explains the 15% fee, prepayment and when you are paid; How it works covers matching, what a company sees and side work next to a job.
