About this task

This retail chain (1,001–5,000 employees) is looking for a senior Payroll Specialist for an ongoing part-time engagement of 2–4 h a week. Sets up new hires and finals correctly, including state forms.

The team is stretched and wants steady, predictable help instead of another full-time hire. It is a retailer with stores and an online channel, and the team works to a weekly trading rhythm.

The team sits in Denver. Everything can be done remotely; an occasional visit is welcome and never required for the first month. The company prefers early-morning hours, before a normal working day starts. About 1 hour a week should overlap with the team's day (MT).

What you deliver

• Set up eight new hires in four states and prepare final pay for three leavers.
• A written update every Thursday with what was done, what is next and anything blocked
• Questions collected in one thread, answered within one working day
• A short handover note when the engagement pauses or ends

What a week looks like

• Tuesday: 15-minute check-in to agree the week's items
• Wednesday: main working block (2 hours)
• Thursday: hand-off note with what shipped and what is open

Duration: 12 weeks, renewable. Accepted on the company's written OK. If something is missed, you fix it in the same week at no extra charge to either side.

How you get paid

• The company prepays Deftridge before your first hour, so payment does not depend on a late invoice.
• Deftridge pays you in USD after the company confirms the hours or the deliverable. The payment date is written in your task agreement.
• You work as an independent contractor: you report your own income, and your recruiter sends the statements your accountant needs.
• You never chase the company. Questions about money go to Deftridge.
