About this task

This specialty insurer for gig workers (51–200 employees) is looking for a senior Payroll Specialist for an ongoing part-time engagement of 2–4 h a week. Sets up new hires and finals correctly, including state forms.

The person who did this left, and the company would rather bring in an experienced part-timer than rush a permanent hire. It is an insurer, so accuracy and an audit trail come before speed.

The team sits in Chattanooga. Everything can be done remotely; an occasional visit is welcome and never required for the first month. The work runs in two set slots a week, agreed with the team at the start. About 2 hours a week should overlap with the team's day (ET).

What you deliver

• Set up eight new hires in four states and prepare final pay for three leavers.
• Questions collected in one thread, answered within one working day
• A short handover note when the engagement pauses or ends
• A written update every Friday with what was done, what is next and anything blocked

What a week looks like

• Wednesday: 15-minute check-in to agree the week's items
• Thursday: main working block (2 hours)
• Friday: hand-off note with what shipped and what is open

Duration: 16 weeks, renewable. Accepted when the output matches the agreed checklist and the sample check passes; the recruiter confirms by e-mail.
