About this task

This Series A machine-learning platform (51–200 employees) is looking for a manager Legal Operations for an ongoing part-time engagement of 3–8 h a week. Sorts requests so lawyers deal with the right ones.

The person who did this left, and the company would rather bring in an experienced part-timer than rush a permanent hire. It builds AI products and needs human experts to check what the models produce.

The team sits in Colchester. Everything can be done remotely; an occasional visit is welcome and never required for the first month. Most people do this on weekday evenings; replies inside the working day are not expected.

What you deliver

• Triage requests, answer routine ones using templates and route the rest to counsel.
• Questions collected in one thread, answered within one working day
• A short handover note when the engagement pauses or ends
• A written update every Thursday with what was done, what is next and anything blocked

What a week looks like

• Daily: one hour at a time that suits you, inside the agreed window
• Monday: ten-minute sync if anything is blocked
• Thursday: weekly summary posted to the shared thread

Duration: 12 weeks, renewable. Accepted on the company's written OK. If something is missed, you fix it in the same week at no extra charge to either side.

How you get paid

• The company prepays Deftridge before your first hour, so payment does not depend on a late invoice.
• Deftridge pays you in GBP after the company confirms the hours or the deliverable. The payment date is written in your task agreement.
• You work as an independent contractor: you report your own income, and your recruiter sends the statements your accountant needs.
• You never chase the company. Questions about money go to Deftridge.
