General Counsel Advisory Hour

About this task

This property and casualty insurer covering fleets and logistics (5,000+ employees) is looking for a director Fractional General Counsel for a paid one-hour session with a senior specialist. One hour of senior legal advice on a defined question.

The company has one decision to take and wants a senior view before it does. It is an insurer, so accuracy and an audit trail come before speed.

The work is fully remote. Any location in Canada works, with a few hours of overlap with the team's day. The call is booked at a time that suits you, evenings included. About 2 hours a week should overlap with the team's day (PT).

What you deliver

• Give advice on an IP assignment question with a written summary afterwards.
• A short written summary of the advice within 24 hours after the session
• Pointers to sources you relied on, so the company can check them
• No preparation outside the hour unless you both agree to extend

How the work runs

• Day 1: scope confirmed in writing, files shared
• Middle of the period: draft shared for early feedback
• Last day: final version and handover note

Duration: One session of about an hour. Accepted when the output matches the agreed checklist and the sample check passes; the recruiter confirms by e-mail.

How you get paid

• The company prepays Deftridge before your first hour, so payment does not depend on a late invoice.
• Deftridge pays you in CAD after the company confirms the hours or the deliverable. The payment date is written in your task agreement.
• You work as an independent contractor: you report your own income, and your recruiter sends the statements your accountant needs.
• You never chase the company. Questions about money go to Deftridge.
