About this task

This Series B developer-tools company for retailers (51–200 employees) is looking for a director Fractional Controller for a monthly bundle of recurring tasks, 12–24 h a month. The schedules and support an auditor requests, ready before fieldwork starts.

A named list of recurring items keeps the month predictable for both sides. The company sells subscription software, so deadlines follow release and billing cycles.

The team sits in Telford. Everything can be done remotely; an occasional visit is welcome and never required for the first month. Most people do this on weekday evenings; replies inside the working day are not expected. About 2 hours a week should overlap with the team's day (UK time).

What you deliver

  • Prepare the PBC list for a year-end audit: fixed assets, accruals, debt, equity and revenue schedules.
  • A month-end summary with hours used against the cap
  • A named list of items moved to next month, so nothing is lost
  • A running log of open questions, reviewed at the start of each week

What a month looks like

  • Start of month: the company shares the items and the priorities
  • Mid-month: progress check of 15 minutes
  • Month end: hours used against the cap, results and open items

Duration: 8 weeks, with a monthly hours cap. Accepted on the company's written OK. If something is missed, you fix it in the same week at no extra charge to either side.

  • A habit of asking one clarifying question early rather than five late

Not included

  • A signature or opinion in your own name: sign-off stays with the company

How you get paid

  • You work as an independent contractor: you report your own income, and your recruiter sends the statements your accountant needs.
